Introduction: Transobturator tape (TOT) surgery is one of the most widely used surgical methods to manage female patients with stress urinary incontinence (SUI).

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the age-related surgical outcomes of TOT surgery in female SUI patients.

Methods: Among 79 SUI patients who underwent TOT from March 2014 to June 2016, 58 who had follow-up medical records were included in the study. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to their age, < 60 years (n = 36) and ≥ 60 years (n = 22), and the surgical success rate was investigated through retrospective analysis of the medical records. The patients who were cured or improved from SUI were sorted as 'successful outcome' while those who showed no change of SUI symptoms were considered as 'surgical failure'. The postoperative satisfaction of the patients was investigated by telephone questionnaire, asking them to select their satisfactory state among the following 4 objective items: very satisfied, satisfied, so-so, and dissatisfied.

Results: The mean age and the duration of SUI showed the statistically significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.014 and p = 0.045, respectively). Also, the preoperative Stamey classification of SUI, mean hospitalization duration, and mean operation time neither showed significant differences between the two groups (p = 0.907, p = 0.542, and p = 0.875, respectively). The success rate of TOT surgery was 88.89% and 90.91% in the groups of < 60 years and ≥ 60 years, respectively, and was not significantly different between the two groups (p = 0.894). According to the telephone interviews, the overall surgical satisfaction was 91.67% and 90.91% in the groups of < 60 years and ≥ 60 years, respectively (p = 0.572). Although a small number of patient
