Objectives: To evaluate the relationship between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and morphological feature of benign prostatic hyperplasia in healthy adult population.

Materials and Methods: Data were collected from 3,198 adult males (age ≥ 50 years) without history of prostate cancer in 2017. Association between prostate enlargement and body mass index (BMI), waist circumflex (WC), MetS component status and IPSS symptom score, respectively, were calculated using uni- and multivariate linear regression analyses. and multivariate logistic regression analysis for predicting factor over 40cc prostate volume.

Results: Total 870 (27.2%) adults were diagnosis MetS. Adults with MetS were observed to have a significant increase in prostate volume (p < 0.01) (Table 1). Prostate volume was correlated with Age, PSA, IPSS score, BMI, WC and MetS components. By multivariate linear regression analysis, PSA, WC and LDL cholesterol were significantly associated with prostate volume (p < 0.01) after adjusting for age(Table 2). PSA (OR 2.40) and BMI (OR 1.03) were independent predictors of prostate volume over 40cc.

Conclusions: We found an association between BMI and prostate volume. However, IPSS symptom score and MetS component were less correlated with prostate volume in healthy adult population.
