We analyzed the prognosis of patients who has undergone first lifetime TURB with simultaneous TURP only for voiding function improvement, rather than diagnostic purpose for prostatic invasion of bladder tumor. All procedures were performed by a single surgeon. Materials and Methods: From October 2005 to May 2018, we retrospectively reviewed medical records of 2,260 TURB cases performed for 1,725 patients. We retrospectively analyzed patients who underwent simultaneous TURB and TURP for functional reason among male older than 50 years who underwent their first lifetime bladder tumor resection. Of these, 378 patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer who had a follow-up period of at least 12 months were analyzed. Total patients were divided into two groups. Group 1 were patients who had undergone TURB and TURP simultaneously and group 2 were patients who had undergone TURB only. Results: There were no clinicpathological differences between two group. With the median follow up period of 51.5 months (26.0 - 83.3, IQR), mean recurrence period of group1 and 2 revealed as 45.78 ± 32.51 and 39.93 ± 31.02 months (mean ± SD, p = 0.099), respectively. Kaplan-Meier curve has shown no difference of recurrence free survival between two groups (p = 0.444). There were only one case with recurrence at bladder neck who is still on follow up without additional recurrence or metastasis. Within the follow up period, the rate of radical cystectomy between two groups were not significant (p = 0.911). Conclusion: With a long term follow up period, we assured that simultaneous TURB and TURP is a safe procedure to perform for patients who suffer with both bladder cancer and voiding symptoms. We were also able to observe the trend that simultaneous TURB and TURP had longer inter-recurrence period compared to TURB alone. keywords : Urinary Bladder Neoplasm; BPH; Transurethral resection
