Purpose: To verify the difference of biological activity between papillary urothelial neoplasm of low malignant potential (PUNLMP), noninvasive low-grade papillary urothelial carcinoma (LGPUC) and noninvasive low-grade urothelial carcinoma (LGUC).

Materials and Methods: We reviewed and analyzed the clinical data from 147 patients who had a diagnosis of PUNLMP (n=19), noninvasive LGPUC (n=111) and noninvasive urothelial carcinoma (n=17) after initial TUR-BT for bladder neoplasm between 2005 and 2017.

Results: The recurrence rate in PUNLMP group was significantly lower compare to the LGPUC group (p=0.014). However the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis didn’t show the difference for 5-year recurrence free survival (RFS) among three groups (63.5% PUNLMP vs. 65.9% LGPUC vs. 67.9% LGUC) (fig. 1). progression in PUNLMP group was reported in 2 patients (Ta and T1). The progression rate among three groups was similar and the Kaplan-Meier curve for 5-year progression free survival (PFS) didn’t demonstrated the difference among three groups (76.4% PUNLMP vs. 92.4% LGPUC vs. 90.9% LGUC) (Table 1). Multivariate analysis revealed that tumor size (≥2cm) (p=0.008, HR; 1.913), tumor number (≥3) (p=0.001, HR; 8.199) and smoking status (smoker) (p=0.004, HR; 4.235) were identified as significant predictor of PFS.

Conclusions:, PUNLMP group had a considerable number of recurrences (21.1%) and a similar risk of progression compared with noninvasive LGPUC and LGUC group. We should treat patients diagnosed with PUNLMP as similar manner which the LGPUC and LGUC was treated in.
